Collection of Personal Information and How We Use it
We collect different types of information through the service including information that you provide us directly when you register an account with our service. This might include your first and last name, user name, phone number, E-mail address, password, date of birth, age and other personal information such as information that you post on your user profile. This also might include profile pictures and location information that you give us during any communication you have with us, communication via E-mail, and financial information such as full bank account number and/or credit card number that you provide us during your use of our service.
Our primary goal in collecting personal information is to provide you with a secure, efficient and successful experience. We may use your information to: provide you with our service and our customer support; to process transactions and send notice about your transactions; verify your identity including during account creation and during the password re-set process; to manage risk, detect or prevent fraud, and/or remediate fraud or other potentially prohibited or illegal activities, resolve disputes, collect fees, troubleshoot problems, detect violation of policies or applicable user agreements; manage and protect our information technology information structure. We may analyze, evaluate or aggregate this information to help us improve the experience of our users, to analyze trends, and provide features and accurate market database.
If you register for CARMEC as a mechanic/auto technician everything mentioned above will apply to you. In addition, we may require more personal information such as driver’s license number, your mechanic’s license number, your mechanic/auto technician certificate provided to you by your State and your full banking information and routing number for direct deposit. We also require you to fill out an independent contractor agreement that contains your information, including your Social Security number so we can provide you with a 1099 form at the end of each fiscal year.
COPYRIGHT AND TRADEMARK DISPUTES
We may remove at your sole discretion any information that you provide us such as username and profile picture if you believe it is inappropriate or violates our policies.
We respect copyright law and expect our members to do the same. We have adopted and implemented a policy that provides for the termination in appropriate circumstances of registered members or other account holders who repeatedly infringe, or are believed to be repeatedly infringing, the rights copyright holders. If you believe any content or materials on the service infringe your copyright, you agree to abide by the notice and takedown procedures set forth in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
HOW TO PROTECT AND STORE PERSONAL INFORMATION
Information you give us about your friends, if you choose to use the service to tell a friend about us, we may ask you to store your friend’s phone number and E-mail address. We may ask you to access your phone book, Facebook, Twitter, Google or other social media sites contact for this purpose. We simply need to send your friend an E-mail or SMS inviting them to our service and to track our invitation program success.
Location information when you use our mobile app we may collect and store information about your location by converting your IP address into a rough geolocation by accessing your device’s GPS coordinates. Improve and personalize our service including without limitation to identify with whom our uses can communicate.
SHARING YOUR INFORMATION
In addition to using your information for the purpose described above we may share your information with parties other than CARMEC, or its users, to third parties, in some cases. We may request your permission before we share your information but we reserve the right to share your information with third parties such as Gateway services without prior notification or without soliciting additional permission. We discuss below situations where we may share your information without your further permission.
We share information about you including information which could be used to personally identify you with the companies we engage to facilitate our services, perform services related functions, or provide services on your behalf such as internet providers, Gateway and hosting providers. We require these companies to maintain your information in confidence and they are prohibited from using your information in any way other than performing services for or on behalf of CARMEC.
We may disclose your information when we have a good faith belief that disclosure is necessary such as:
- To respond to subpoenas, court order, or other compulsory legal process;
- To protect our property rights and investigate and defend our legal claims;
- When we believe disclosure is necessary to protect others from serious bodily injury, death, and as otherwise is required by law.
ACCESSING AND CHANGING YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION OR DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT
- You can edit and update your account at any time.
- If you delete your account you will not be able to sign in, use the service or access any of your information.
- If you delete your account we may retain certain information associated with your account for analytical and record-keeping purposes. If you delete your account with us, please be aware that we may retain contents you may have previously posted on the service including, without limitation, any data or posted content.
Your account registration information and password are protected so that only you or third parties that you allow to access your login credentials can access your account. All personally identifiable information that we collect about you is stored in limited access servers. The service has technical and administrative and physical security measures in place to protect against foreseeable risks and we cannot guarantee that authorized third parties will not be able to circumvent these safeguards or access and or use your personal information in for improper purposes.
